I can’t express the contagious joy that overtakes the people of God on this glorious day. It’s not as if we don’t know He is Risen every other day. It’s that on this day we remember in a historical sort of way the morning the tomb was found empty–when the Son of God ascended to His heavenly Father, our high priest–when the serpent was crushed–when Death was defeated.

This song basically expresses it all for me–I remember dancing about the living room as a kid as it played on the record player–a 1970s album from my mother’s childhood. Danny Lee and the Children of Truth.

Hey, listen now, for I aught to tell you
He was more than just a man
He gave his life for salvation’s plan
He was the truth, the light and the way
And His life he laid down one day
That’s when He proved, that’s when He proved
that He was more than just a man

Who’s that walkin’ on the water?
He was more than just a man
The laws of nature could not bind him
For God gave all power in His hands
He was more than just a man

He was too much for the devil to battle.
The demons of hell obeyed his command.
He was to hot for Satan to handle,
Against Him no power on this earth could stand.
Oh, He was more, more! More than just a man.

The power of death could not kill him,
and the gaits of Hell could not hold him.
The chains of the grave could not bind him
and He arose with the keys in His hands.

Oh Death, tell me where is your sting?
Oh-oh, Grave, where is your victory?

The shadow of death has lost its power
Since the day of its appointed hour
For He was more, more, more,
He was more than just a man.

Oh Death, tell me where is your sting?
Oh-oh, Grave, where is your victory?

The power of death could not kill him,
and the gaits of Hell could not hold him.
and they called him, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Oh oh oh he was more that just a man!

Oh, He was the Son of God! (Jesus!)
The Prince of Peace! (Jesus!)
The Lord of Lords, and the King of Kings!(Jesus!)
He was more than just a man.
